Chitosan is a natural polymer polysaccharide obtained by deacetylation of chitin, which has many unique properties and a wide range of applications. The molecular structure of chitosan is a linear polymer consisting of β-(1¡ãC)-2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucose units linked by glycosidic bonds. The molecule contains a large number of amino (-NH¡ãC and hydroxyl (-OH) groups, and these functional groups give chitosan many special properties such as reactivity, hydrophilicity, biocompatibility, and so on. Compared with chitosan, chitosan has better water solubility and bioactivity due to the partial removal of acetyl group and increased amino group content, which makes it more active in chemical properties.
