Titanium dioxide is a polycrystalline compound that occurs in three crystalline forms in nature: Rutile, Anatase, and Brookite. Both rutile type and anatase type belong to the tetragonal system, but have different lattices, so the X-ray diffraction image is different, the diffraction Angle (2θ) of anatase type titanium dioxide is 25.5°, and the diffraction Angle (2θ) of rutile type titanium dioxide is 27.5°. Rutile type crystals are elongated, prismatic crystals, usually twins; The anatase type generally approximates the regular octahedron. The basic unit of the constituent structure of these three crystal forms is the TiO6 octahedron, and the different phase structures mainly depend on how the TiO6 octahedron is connected. Anatase structure is composed of TiO6 octahedral common edges, while rutile and plate titanium structure is composed of TiO6 octahedral common edges. Anatase can actually be seen as an octahedral structure, while rutile and titanite are octahedral structures with slightly distorted lattices. Due to the different structure and stability of anatase, plate titanium and rutile, plate titanium and anatase are low temperature phase, rutile is high temperature phase, the first two can be converted into rutile type at more than 600 degrees.
